Types
Active insecticide ingredients registered for chinch bug control include carbaryl, bifenthrin, cyfluthrin and imidacloprid. They are available in liquid and granular forms. Both forms work well, but people often choose liquid sprays for thorough coverage.
Preparation
Removing any thatch from lawns ensures the maximum contact between the insecticide and the grass and soil. Watering the grass also helps spread the insecticide to the feeding zone of the insects. Watering is especially important if you use a granular insecticide.
Warning
Insecticide application for chinch bugs is not always necessary because a healthy lawn generally withstands chinch bug infestations. Even for areas where chinch bugs attack every year one insecticide application per year is usually enough.
