Husqvarna is a Swedish-based company, originally founded in 1689 as a weapons manufacturer. Over time it has become one of the world's leading manufacturers of forest and garden tools, and is well known in North America for its chain saws. The Husqvarna 266 XP, produced from 1983 to 2006, is a mid-range saw useful for most nonprofessional tasks.
Engine and Fuel Tank Size
The 266 XP is equipped with a 4.5 horsepower, 66.7 cc engine. Husqvarna no longer produces any chain saws with this size engine, instead creating the 357 XP and the 372 XP, with 56.5 cc and 76.5 cc engines respectively. This mid-range engine allows the occasional chain saw operator to have enough power to do most tasks without worrying about lacking power. The fuel tank holds 0.75 liters of fuel: two-stroke engine oil and gasoline mixed.
Guide Bar Length and Chain Pitch
With a guide bar of 15 inches, the chain saw can accommodate most tasks, such as felling and cutting up small trees and trimming branches. Operators who want to customize their saw for bigger jobs can add a guide bar up to 32 inches in length. The pitch of the chain, half the distance between three consecutive rivets, is 3/8 inch, the most common pitch for chain saws.
Other Specifications
The 266 XP uses a nylon mesh, cartridge air filter, and its engine operates at 9300 rpm. Its case is made of die cast magnesium. Together with the guide bar and chain, the 266 XP weighs 15.6 lbs. It has an auto-retracting, pull-cord starter.
