Although New Holland is better known for tractors designed for commercial agriculture, they also make compact tractors and commercial mowers. Between compact tractors and their larger commercial machines, New Holland makes tractors that will work in many different agricultural applications. By understanding the differences in tractor specifications, you can select a tractor to suit your individual needs.
Power Range
The amount of power produced by the engine will have an effect on how much the tractor can pull, both when hauling and when using power attachments. Although some of the dedicated lawnmowers have less power, New Holland compact tractors offer power ranging from 20 to 60 horsepower (hp), depending on the model. Commercial tractors start at 40 hp and are available with up to 600 hp engines.
Engine Type
Depending on the tractor model, New Holland tractors have engines with between three and six cylinders. Although New Holland commercial mowers have either two or three cylinders, compact tractors have four cylinders. Commercial tractors have three-, four- or six-cylinder engines. Lower powered tractors have a three-cylinder engine. Tractors with up to 135 hp may have a four-cylinder engine. Higher power tractors are fitted with a six-cylinder engine.
Drive System
In addition to two- and four-wheel drive tractors, New Holland makes crawler, or track-drive, tractors. Compact tractor offerings from the company include both two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive models. Commercial tractor offerings include two-wheel drive tractors, four-wheel drive tractors, and crawler-drive tractors. Larger, high-power four-wheel drive tractors include tractors with two wheels per wheel set, for a total of eight wheels.
Cab Type
Compact tractors all have an open driver compartment called a Rops. However, some commercial tractors have a fully enclosed operator cab. Other models of commercial tractors can either be open or enclosed. Yet other commercial tractors have an open cab. Tractors fitted with an all-weather cab have air conditioning and heat for operator comfort.
