The Honda GCV160 engine powers several models of lawnmower, providing the spinning action essential to the mower’s function. Starting your GCV160 is straightforward and involves opening the fuel valve, adjusting the choke, setting the flywheel and pulling the starter cord. You can easily memorize the starting process so you don’t have to follow instructions each time you mow the lawn. It takes about 30 seconds to start your Honda GVC160 engine from cold.
Turn the fuel valve on the side of the engine 90 degrees counterclockwise to the "On" position.
Move the choke throttle lever, located on the left of the fuel valve, to the "Choke" position if starting from cold. Use "Fast" or "Slow" if the engine is already warm.
Shift the flywheel brake control above the throttle/choke lever to the "Run" position.
Pull firmly on the starter cord, letting the rope slowly feed back into the machine. The engine starts after a few pulls.
Move the throttle/choke lever to the "Fast" or "Slow" position a few seconds after starting the engine.
