Craftsman many types of riding mowers, including your standard gas-powered lawn tractor, as well as zero-turn models. All riding mowers, including Craftsman, need regular maintenance to prevent early wear down of parts. When your mower will not start, it is likely your machine is experiencing a mechanical failure or does not have enough power, whether it be petroleum or electrical, to run properly. Troubleshooting your machine will determine whether the issue is serious enough for a visit to your local Craftsman service provider.
Set the blade engage lever to the disengage setting. The engine will not start with an engaged blade.
Set the parking brake to the engage position.
Open up the hood of the machine and check the gas tank. Make sure the gas tank is full.
Inspect the cord leading to the spark plug. Press it down onto the spark plug if it is unhooked.
Remove the spark plug from the engine using a socket wrench. Inspect the end of the spark plug for signs of corrosion. Replace it if necessary.
Check the terminals of the battery for signs of corrosion. Pull off the battery cables and clean the terminals according to your owner's manual instructions.
