Kneepads provide safety and comfort while working on your knees. Gardeners use kneepads to protect their clothing while they kneel in the dirt. Kneepads also protect the delicate knee joint from stones and other painful items on the ground. During housework, kneepads provide comfort while wiping baseboards or doing other floor cleaning chores. As in gardening, the pads can also protect clothing from moisture and dirt. Kneepads are available at any hardware or home improvement store, but they are also simple to make from items around the house.
Things You'll Need
Athletic socks
Plastic grocery bags
Fold the athletic socks in thirds lengthwise. If the sock is long enough, fold it in half, then in half again to make a four-layer pad. The more you fold the sock, the plushier your kneepads will be.
Place the folded sock on the lower portion of the knee joint, just below the kneecap.
Tie the plastic grocery bag around both the folded sock and your knee. Flex your knee to check for comfort. Re-tie the bag if necessary.
Discard the bag after your work; wash the socks.
