Scott lawn tractors are great for mowing large areas of grass, but over time the main drive belt that runs the blades and pulleys to the rear wheel belt will wear out and snap. When this happens, the mower will stop moving and the blades will stop turning. With a few supplies you can replace the main drive belt yourself and save yourself a hefty mower repair fee.
Things You'll Need
Wrench set
New drive belt
Disengage the mower blades. Turn off the mower engine, and lay beside the front end of the lawn tractor near the engine.
Locate the main pulley bolted to the base of the crankshaft under the engine. Three pins beside the pulley prevent the drive belt from slipping out of the pulley while running. Unscrew these three belt keeper pins from the base of the lawn tractor with the proper sized wrench.
Slip the belt off of the pulley. Slide the new belt (with the V shape toward the pulley) onto the pulley and tighten the belt keeper pins back into place.
Unscrew the two housings that are bolted over the two pulleys on the top of the mower deck. Use the proper sized wrench to remove the four bolts that hold each housing into place. Slip the old drive belt off of the two deck pulleys. Slide the new belt around the pulleys. Tighten the mower deck pulley housings back into place.
