An electric hedge trimmer lets you sculpt and maintain your foliage without having to deal with troublesome gasoline fumes while the motor is engaged. Should a Black & Decker electric hedge trimmer fail to operate efficiently or at all, troubleshooting the device can lead to a solution. You should wear the same safety glasses and protective gloves you used while the trimmer was running when you troubleshoot it.
Things You'll Need
Vise
Rotary tool/Sharpening pad
Outdoor extension cord, 25 feet
Lubricating spray can
Place the Black & Decker hedge trimmer in a vise on a work surface with the blades facing up. Grind the edges of the blades with a rotary tool that has a sharpening pad on its end. Continue to do this for at least five minutes before stopping. Spray lubricating spray on the edges of the blades. Remove the trimmer from the vise.
Unplug the extension cord connecting the hedge trimmer's power cord to the AC outlet on an outside wall of your house. Plug a UL-rated ("Underwriter's Laboratory") extension cord designed to handle the hedge trimmer's power needs into the AC outlet. Plug the trimmer's power cord into the extension cord's socket.
Shake a can of lubrication spray for five seconds. Insert an end of the included plastic straw into the nozzle of the spray can. Place the free end of the nozzle against the gap inside the trigger guard that the trigger, which is sticking, is up against. Spray a two-second burst of lubricating spray into the gap. Work the trigger a few times before turning the trimmer's power switch on.
