Changing the oil in a Honda HR217 lawnmower is an important part of routine maintenance. The mower uses motor oil to lubricate internal engine components. As the oil ages, it gets dirty and breaks down, losing the ability to properly lubricate the engine. Honda recommends changing the oil after the first five hours of use, and then every 50 hours after. To change the oil, you must locate the oil drain plug so that you are able to remove the old motor oil.
Things You'll Need
Rag
Find the oil filler cap near the bottom of the engine.
Wipe around the oil filler cap with a rag to remove any dirt or grease.
Remove the cap by turning it counterclockwise. The filler cap has a dipstick attached to check the oil level. This opening is where the oil drains from the engine. To drain the oil, the engine must be tilted to the right.
Tips & Warnings
Allow the engine to cool before touching it.
