Malathion is a pesticide that is used to control many pests. Mosquitoes, Japanese beetles, Mediterranean fruit flies, aphids and vinegar flies are some of the pests it controls. The basic use of malathion is to control pests on fruit. It is sprayed directly onto the foliage and fruit of the fruit tree. The spray is highly toxic to humans and animals.
Things You'll Need
Malathion
Throw-away coveralls
Long-sleeve shirt
Shoes
Goggles
Chemical-resistant gloves
Tank sprayer or backpack sprayer
Water
Measuring cup
Funnel
Mixing Malathion in a Sprayer
Read the label carefully and thoroughly and follow all label instructions.
Put on complete safety gear: suit, goggles and gloves.
Clean out backpack or tank sprayer thoroughly before using to avoid contamination.
Fill your tank halfway with water.
Mix where there is adequate ventilation. Pour pesticide into measuring cup. Then pour specified amount into sprayer. Avoid splashing (again, your goggles should be on).
Fill the sprayer three-fourths of the way with water and begin mixing. Add any surfactants that make the pesticide stick at this time.
Top off the tank with water and close.
Tips & Warnings
Do not spray around pets or animals.
Do not spray on a windy day.
