How to Kill Ants With Grits. There is a humane and organic way to get rid of ants from your lawn area that is free of chemicals. By using non-toxic materials you not only save money, you help protect the water supply by avoiding toxic runoff into the system.
There is a humane and organic way to get rid of ants from your lawn area that is free of chemicals. By using non-toxic materials you not only save money, you help protect the water supply by avoiding toxic runoff into the system.
Things You'll Need
Water dispensing item (soda bottle or plant feeder)
2 cups dry grits
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
Preparing the Mixture
Make sure the object you use for the mixture is clean. Use something with a hard surface that cannot be penetrated by birds or other animals that may be attracted to the mixture.
Mix the grits and water together first, then add the sugar. It is important the sugar sticks to the grainy particles so it will take effect once poured into the ground. Mix thoroughly until all of the grits are coated.
Pour the mixture into the container. Place the tip of the dispenser 3 to 4 inches into the ant hole so as to penetrate the mound. As the mixture enters the mound, the acidic component of the sugar should draw the ants to the grainy grits, which they will consume. The grits will in turn absorb moisture from the ant's body, killing it. As the ants begin to die off, the mound should disappear.
