At some point, you will need to trim the trees at your home or property. Although pruning trees can be simple, sometimes you need an extension ladder to reach those branches that are up high at the top of a tree. Extension ladders are ideal to do jobs , such as trimming trees, cleaning out gutters and painting, that are taller than eight feet.

Bring the extension ladder to the tree you need to trim. Put on the work gloves to protect your hands. Pull the ladder's edge and extend it at least three to four feet beyond the height you need to be to trim the tree branches. Place the rung locks securely on each side, so the top part won't slide down and possibly injure you.
Set the extension ladder on the ground, with the bottom of it nestled against the tree. Walk to the top part of the ladder and begin to lift it up slowly, walking towards the tree.
Move it away from the tree's base as you raise up the bottom of the extension ladder. You want the ladder's base to be around a couple of feet away from the tree. The taller you raise the extension of the ladder, the farther you should pull it from the tree trunk.
Hold on securely to the rungs with both hands while climbing up the ladder. If you are holding pruning shears, though, hold them in one hand while you slowly climb the ladder, firmly gripping the rungs with the other hand.
Proceed to prune the tree branches as necessary, being careful to keep a strong foothold on the rungs and to grip the ladder with at least one hand whenever possible. When not using hands on the ladder, hook one leg through the rung.
Tips & Warnings
Try not to step on the top three steps of the extension ladder, as it can be unstable.
