Things You'll Need
A large lawn
Gas
Oil
Protective clothing and safety glasses
Read the manufacturer's operating manual.
Clear the work area of sticks, stones and other things that could be thrown by the blades.
Be sure you have enough daylight left to finish the job.
Disengage the clutch and shift the mower into neutral before starting the engine.
Set the mower at the highest cutting point to use it on uneven ground.
Mow up and down slopes, not sideways.
Reduce speed on slopes and when turning sharply.
Watch for rocks and holes.
Replace worn grass-catcher bags.
