What Is Limu Juice?

Limu is the name for a group of aquatic plants with a long history as a food source for Polynesian people. Limu juice, made from these plants, is a bottled commercial product.

Limu juice is the bottled extract of the aquatic plant. It is packaged and sold by various companies who promote its alleged health benefits in their marketing. The marketing typically claims that the active ingredient of limu, called fucoidan, promotes good health.

Limu juice is typically sold through multi-level marketing or MLM. Not all MLM companies are legitimate, warns the Federal Trade Commission. Some of them are illegal pyramid schemes. The FTC advises using caution and doing considerable research on a company before becoming involved with an MLM company.

Nationally known natural health expert Dr. Andrew Weil does not believe that limu juice offers any medicinal benefits. He says there is no compelling scientific evidence that fucoidan, which is also found in other aquatic plants, has any impact on a person's health.
