Tension
There is no universal rule when it comes to adjusting the tension of the chain on your chainsaw. Different sizes and models require different tension levels on the chains. Typically, the lower half of the chain should not sag, while the upper half should be loose enough to be gently pulled away from the blade by hand.
Adjusting
Consult the saw owner's manual to learn the appropriate level of tension on the chain. Then, using a screwdriver, adjust the tension screw that is often located at the base of the blade, next to the body of the saw.
Too Loose or Tight
If the chain is too loose or too tight, the saw will not work correctly. If the saw is too loose, it will wobble and make cutting difficult. If it is too tight, it is more prone to breaking.
