Perennials
Perennial flowers are varieties that grow back year after year without being replanted. Some of the more common perennial flowers in Montana include aster, shasta daisy, sweet William, daylilly, iris and daffodil.
Biennials
Biennial flowers are those that bloom the second summer after seeds are planted in the spring. Some common biennial flowers in Montana include foxglove, hollyhock and Canterbury bells.
Annuals
Annual flowers are those that die in fall and must be planted again in the spring each year. Some common annual flowers in Montana include marigold, petunia, zinnia, pansy, monkey flower and forget-me-not.
Wildflowers
Montana is home to a number of species of wildflowers. These may include dwarf larkspur, glacier lillies, silky lupine, amica and moss phlox. These are found primarily in the Gallatin National Forest area in the south-central portion of the state.
Shrubs
A number of flowering shrubs thrive in Montana. Some of these include Oregon grape, Juneberry, bearberry, chokeberry and mountain heather.
