Roaches are potentially the most reviled household pest. They carry disease and leave filth wherever they go. Unlike other household bugs, they also provide no benefit with their existence. However, getting rid of them can be tricky. Their exoskeletons make them resilient and they prove to be highly resourceful. Luckily, several solutions work well to eliminate and continually prevent roach infestation.
Sprays
The most immediate method to deal with roaches is a spray insecticide. Spray cans of roach specific insecticide can be bought almost anywhere, from grocery stores to 24-hour gas stations. These insecticides work as a low-grade nerve gas and destroy the roaches nervous system. However, because they are a nerve toxin, they are not safe for small children or curious pets. Do not be tempted to over spray these, either. The fumes can be toxic if sprayed in a small place or overused.
Traps
Many kinds of roach traps are available. While there are some live traps on the market, most rely on glue or a similar sticky substance in which to trap roaches. Once the traps are full, the roaches can be flushed down the toilet, in the case of live traps, or the entire trap can be thrown away, in the case of glue traps. Traps can be very helpful in determining where the roaches are entering your house from. Those with a higher concentration of roaches are closest to their entrance.
Bait Stations
Bait stations are in many ways similar to traps in that they provide an attractive place for roaches. However, instead of trapping the roaches for disposal, they provide the roaches with food that contains a mold that is only harmful to roaches. This method makes these stations perfectly safe for small children and pets. However, because the roaches are able to walk away, they are largely useless for gathering information about the roaches' entrance to your home.
