When tackling the problem of ants in your home, consider their source. Often you will find a trail of ants coming in from the outside. Usually you will notice a small hole or crack in the wall allowing them free entry into your home. One of the first and best things you can do to prevent ants from invading your home is to simply caulk up any holes or apparent cracks in your walls. Look closely around windows, doors and other entryways for suspicious trails.
Trimming
Another thing to consider in banishing ants from your residence is to take a look around the outside of your home. Ants look for the easiest entry point possible. Sometimes this is as simple as them climbing along a leaf or tree branch adjacent to your roof line or windows, and walking right into your home. Trim your bushes, trees and shrubs so that none of them touch the house. This will help to eliminate a lot of your ant problem.
Vinegar
Vinegar can be mixed with a small amount of water and sprayed around the interior of your home, on countertops, along floor boards or anywhere you are seeing ants. The smell of the vinegar will dissipate quickly after drying. Reapply as often as necessary.
Window Cleaner
Another effective solution to get rid of ants is to make a mixture of half window cleaner and half liquid soap. Mix in a spray bottle and spray in problem areas of your home.
Pepper
You can also try sprinkling black pepper or cayenne pepper around the baseboards and along kitchen countertops. Ants tend not to like the smell of pepper.
Baby Powder
Baby powder is another simple solution when it comes to getting rid of ants. Sprinkle in problem areas for an effective, inexpensive solution.
Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy can also be used to eradicate ants from your home. Mix about two to three drops of peppermint essential oil with one cup of water and put into a spray bottle. Spray affected areas and watch the ants scatter.
