Moles are major pests in yards and gardens where they burrow underground and make holes everywhere. As a result they can kill your grass and plants. Moles feed off the earthworms and grubs within the soil. They are a nuisance and, although it can be difficult, there are several methods that can effectively rid you of moles.
Traps
Mole traps are one of the most effective ways of eliminating the moles in your garden or lawn. First you should find an active run, which will appear as a mound growing across your property in one direction. You find out if it's active by stepping on it and pressing it down. Check the next day and if it is up again then the run has been rebuilt. Set your trap over the run. As the mole runs through the trap it will snap down and kill the mole instantly. Continue doing this until you no longer see signs of moles in your yard.
Pest Repellent
A good home remedy to use that will get rid of moles without killing them is to mix one cup of Murphy's Oil Soap, one oz. castor oil and 1/4 cup cayenne pepper. Apply this with a hose-end sprayer. The mixture is an irritant to the mole and they will leave the area, as will other small pests in the area such as squirrels.
Water
A popular method in getting rid of moles is to try to flush them out. Simply insert the garden hose into the run and turn the water on full force. Leave the water on until the moles are out. This method may feel proactive, but it does not work well because as soon as the water recedes the stubborn moles will be back.
