2-4-D Weed Killer Information. 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) is a selective broad leaf herbicide used to control several plant species, including bitterweed, Texas blueweed, broomweed, wild buckwheat and burdock.

Chemistry
2,4-D is a chlorinated phenoxy compound that has many derivatives including amines, esters and salts.
Health Effects
2,4-D can cause eye and skin irritation. Inhalation of 2,4-D can cause coughing, burning and dizziness. Proper safety equipment, including waterproof gloves, chemical-resistant footwear and safety glasses, should be worn to avoid exposure.
Spraying
Apply 2,4-D spray during warm weather when weeds are actively growing. Use a pressure setting below 20 psi and apply a uniform layer of weed killer over all weed-infested areas.
Environmental Concerns
2,4-D vapors, spray drift and runoff can damage surrounding plants. Contamination usually occurs during mixing.
Proper Mixing
Fill the spray tank half way with water. Add the required amount of 2,4-D and finish filling the tank with water.
