Nothing brings more cheer and color into a room or office than a flower arrangement. Floral arrangements come in many different shapes, sizes and colors. In the flower arrangement design world, there are several different basic types of floral arrangements, ranging from basic to intricate in design.
Dome
The dome flower arrangement is simple and easy to design. It is round, with all flowers the same height. Dome arrangements can completely consist of mass flowers, such as roses or other focal point flowers, or have a mixture of mass flowers and filler flowers, such as baby's breath, to help fill in the empty spots.
Fan
The fan flower arrangement is designed like its namesake. Fan-shaped floral arrangements generally consist of a line of flowers with long, straight stems, such as delphiniums and gladiolus.
Oval
The oval flower arrangement is designed to resemble an oval when viewed from the front. The top line of flowers, such as stock and snapdragons, are tall. The flowers gradually get shorter as they get closer to the bottom of the arrangement to create the formal oval shape. This flower arrangement design is generally used for weddings and funerals.
Horizontal
The horizontal flower arrangement style features symmetrical low sides that span out double the length of the middle height. The flowers used in the horizontal arrangement can include line flowers only or a mixture of line and mass. The flowers are generally mirrored on both sides, in exact placements, to add to the precise symmetrical design. The horizontal flower arrangement is favored as a centerpiece on many tables.
Triangular
The triangular floral arrangement is similar to the oval design. Line flowers, such as gladiolus---or a mixture of line and filler flowers---are placed to create a triangular look. This triangular flower arrangement is easily created by placing line flowers in a position where the height of the arrangement is greater than the width.
Vertical
The vertical flower arrangement uses line flowers, such as snapdragons or stock, to create a tall piece. The height of the piece greatly overshadows the width. The vertical floral arrangement is generally used for gift-giving, weddings and funerals. This design is often complemented with filler flowers, such as baby's breath, to complete the look.
