Finding office plants that don't need sunlight is a very easy task. All plants need some form of light, but the bright fluorescent lights in many office buildings will supplement the indoor office plant's need for light most adequately. With so many office varieties available, you only have to worry about choosing the best-looking container.
Lucky Bamboo
Despite the misleading name, the lucky bamboo plant is not a bamboo at all. This plant is a member of the lily family and is native to the dark, tropical forest of Southeast Asia and Africa. Water the lucky bamboo regularly using distilled, fluoride- and chlorine-free water. This plant will grow in a room that has no natural light.
Peace Lily
The peace lily is a tropical-looking plant with dark green foliage and single white blooms partially surrounding a yellow finger-like spadix. The peace lily requires very little light since in nature it's often found growing on the shaded, dark floor of the tropical American rainforest. Very easy to maintain, the peace lily requires distilled, room-temperature water until the soil is moist--about once every week. This indoor plant does well in light that is bright enough to read a book by--like that in an indoor office.
Ferns
Ferns have existed since prehistoric times, as evidenced by the many types of ferns in fossil form that can be dated to 452 million years old. These plants feature long fronds of bright green foliage and are especially easy to care for due to their low light preference. Often found growing at the bottom of dark, tropical forests, there are around 12,000 different species of ferns today. Ferns require very low lighting conditions such as indirect light coming in from an office window. Water the fern until the soil is very moist and do not water again until the soil is dry. Mist office fern plant fronds with warm water to increase the humidity level.
Snake Plant
The snake plant, or mother-in-law's tongue plant, is very easy to grow as an office plant. This plant features long green leaves reaching up to 4 feet tall and speckled with yellow coloring. The biggest feature of the snake plant is its ability to produce large amounts of oxygen. The snake plant can take long periods of neglect, making it a very hard plant to kill. Only water when the soil is dry. This indoor plant will thrive in both the darkest spots of the office and in the brightest.
