If you have a home garden or a farm, you probably have many unwelcome winged visitors. This can be a huge headache in the flowering or harvest season, as the birds are likely to attack the flowers or newly ripened fruits – or, in some cases, even before they ripen. Follow a few different methods to ensure that your garden or farm is safe from these winged intruders.
Scarecrow
This is one of the oldest methods used by man to scare birds away. Erect a scarecrow made of sticks and hay, dressed up in human clothes. You don't need a great skill to make a scarecrow. All you have to do is to make a human-looking scary figure with a pot for a head, hay stuffed into an old shirt and a stick holding it up. Birds confuse scarecrows for human beings and will immediately go away.
Shiny Objects
These are the most inexpensive methods of driving birds away from your garden. Birds flee from shining things, especially when it is very sunny. The sunlight reflects off the objects to scare the birds. You can use any kind of shiny material: CDs, tinfoil, old aluminium plates or pie pans. Hang them in your garden at regular intervals, and they will do the trick.
Powerful Magnets
Thanks to technological innovations, you can find several kinds of equipment to scare birds and animals away. You can use a powerful magnet to repel the birds. The magnet interferes with the birds’ sense of direction and confuses them; they will stay away from the radius of the magnet’s field. The number of magnets or their strength will depend on the size of your garden/farm.
Audio Deterrents & Electric Tracks
Audio Deterrents create shrill sounds which scare the birds away. Using them is an effective, non-violent method of keeping birds out of your property. Another option is the Electric Track, a device that gives the bird (or any human being) an electric shock when touched. These electric shocks are low enough to be harmless but irritating. This device is practical for use in smaller spaces.
