Whether invading your town in the winter, or eating your garden in the summer, crows and starlings can be quite bothersome birds. Winter flocks can consist of hundreds of thousands of birds in one small area, turning a neighborhood or downtown into a bird-dropping war zone. In the past, people have tried poisoning crows and starlings to get rid of them, but that has proven unsuccessful, dangerous and cruel.
Things You'll Need
Bird figures
Reflective bird tape
Reflective wind chimes
Party noisemakers
Place a figure of a crow or other large bird, such as a craft bird or old Halloween decoration, in a location you where you want to keep the birds clear. Move it around, so the crows do not get comfortable with the figure -- and avoid using more than one or two in a small area -- as this may reduce its effect.
String reflective bird tape and wind chimes in the area around where the crows and starlings tend to be located.
Go outside and make noise with party noisemakers at the time of day the birds are around, to scare them away.
Repeat all these procedures -- varying the location and time of day -- so the birds do not become comfortable with your efforts -- to encourage them to leave.
