Beetles are difficult insects to kill if they are given a chance to multiply in your home, as they tend to hide in order to protect themselves from harm. Chemical insecticides such as bug bombs can reduce the number of beetles in your home, but may leave permanent stains on your walls and furniture. Homemade insecticides made from common food items effectively kill beetles while keeping your home free of damage, and are also less of a risk to your health.
Things You'll Need
Pitcher
Spray bottle
Cayenne pepper
Dish-washing liquid soap
Remove the top of the spray bottle and add 2 tbsp. of cayenne pepper into an empty pitcher. Hot pepper sauce is a suitable alternative if you do not have cayenne pepper.
Fill the empty pitcher with 1 qt. of tap water.
Mix in two drops of the dish-washing liquid soap for every quart of water.
Leave the pitcher in a safe place overnight, and stir the ingredients with a spoon.
Pour the pitcher's ingredients into an empty bottle, and seal the lid of the spray bottle.
Shake the bottle's contents and spray the cracks and crevices along the wall of your home, where beetles tend to hide.
Shake the bottle as you spray to keep the ingredients from settling at the bottom of the bottle.
Tips & Warnings
Nematodes are natural predators of beetles, and can be added to your garden to prevent beetles from making their way into your home. These helpful insects can be purchased at garden centers, and are harmless to people and pets.
