Bees are attracted to holly bushes because of the flowers that bloom for two to three weeks. Though beneficial to the plant, bees can be dangerous, especially to young children who are allergic. The use of a simple homemade bee repellent, however, is one method of keeping the bees around your holly bush to a minimum. The repellent is effective and safe for your plant.
Things You'll Need
Plastic spray bottle
Funnel
Orange oil
Water
Cucumber
Vegetable peeler
Orange Oil
Unscrew the top of a plastic spray bottle and fit a funnel into the opening.
Pour 1 part orange oil and 2 parts water into the funnel until the bottle is filled.
Screw the cap back onto the bottle and shake to integrate the water and orange oil.
Spray the base of the holly bush with the homemade repellent until the bush is damp. Monitor the bees around the bush during the week and reapply the repellent if necessary.
Cucumber
Peel two fresh cucumbers with a vegetable peeler.
Collect the peelings from the cucumber and place them in a plastic bag.
Immediately spread the cucumber peels around the base of your holly bush.
Peel an additional two cucumbers every week to replace the old peelings under the bush.
