Often, the sight of a scorpion is enough to illicit fear in person. Nevertheless, most scorpions found in America are no more dangerous than the common honey bee. While all scorpions do create venom, only a few pose a serious threat to humans. Common symptoms of a scorpion sting are irritation, mild pain and temporary numbness. Still, if you would like to remove the tail from a scorpion, you can do so.
Things You'll Need
Needle-nose pliers
Gloves
Large bowl
Tweezers
Trap the scorpion in a large bowl so that it can't escape. You want to limit its movements as much as possible.
Pin the scorpion down with a set of large tweezers or pliers. Take a moment to make sure the scorpion cannot break away from your grasp.
Snip the tail off the scorpion with a pair of needle-nose pliers. Remove the stinger and the poison sac by cutting at the base of the tail.
Tips & Warnings
For your safety, wear gloves when handling a wild scorpion.
Avoid handling a scorpion unless you are positive it is nonlethal.
