Voles, or field mice, are garden pests that are similar to moles and live in fields, shrubs and forests. Some types of voles live underground like moles and are often confused with other rodents. They can be nuisances and ruin landscaping with their underground tunnels. Some homeowners prefer to use natural remedies rather than harmful poisons to discourage voles from entering their properties. Two common solutions are garlic and soybean oil, which can prevent voles from tearing up your garden. Create an easy spray using both ingredients to repel the garden pests.
Things You'll Need
2 large bulbs of garlic
Blender
6 large chili peppers
Soybean oil
Dish washing soap
Coffee filter
Spray bottle
Place 12 to 15 chopped cloves of garlic in a blender. Cut six large chili peppers of any variety and add to the garlic.
Add 2 tbsp. of soybean oil along with 1 tbsp. of dish washing soap. Top off with 2 cups to 3 cups of water.
Mix well in blender. Strain through a coffee filter and fill up a spray bottle. Add more water if needed. Place any remaining mixture in a jar to use later.
Spray the mixture around your yard, especially on plants and shrubs where you have seen voles. The strong odor should repel voles.
Spray the mixture again after hard rains or about every 10 days. If the voles are still around, you may need to make the mixture again, but use less water.
Plant garlic and soybean plants around your yard, if you are able to. These plants will also naturally repel voles.
