The foliage of houseplants can develop a dull appearance over time due to the build up of minerals from your water, or from regular dust and dirt accumulation. Commercial leaf-shine products can be expensive, and may contain harmful chemicals. By making your own homemade leaf shine, you save money and can ensure that nothing harmful will be sprayed onto your plant's foliage.
Things You'll Need
Spray bottle
Warm water
? tsp. liquid dishwashing soap
Clean cloth
Mayonnaise
Paper towel
Fill a spray bottle with warm water. Add ? tsp. liquid dishwashing soap without degreaser. Put the spray nozzle on the bottle and shake it to incorporate the soap into the water.
Spray the foliage of the house plant with the soapy water. Wipe the leaves off with one side of the clean cloth. This will remove the mineral deposits or dirt causing the plant to look dull.
Turn the cloth over and put a drop of mayonnaise on the cloth. Rub the sides of the cloth together to spread the mayo thin.
Rub the mayonnaise on the cloth into the leaves of the plant until they shine. Wipe off any excess mayo with a paper towel.
