Mice do not only invade dirty or untidy homes; they can also thrive in clean homes as long as they have a food source. Mice often chew through food packages and leave behind droppings in your home. The rodents may carry diseases that can make you ill. You can purchase commercial products to repel mice, but they often contain harmful chemicals. Repel rats and mice from your home as soon as possible with non-toxic items.
Things You'll Need
Hot pepper sauce
Bowl
Fresh or dried mint
Cat
Wormwood, elderberry or alliums
Small bowls
Ammonia
Combine 1 tbsp. of hot pepper sauce with 2 quarts of warm water in a bowl. Pour the solution into the mouse holes.
Sprinkle fresh or dried mint where you notice the mice the most. If you can locate where the mice are coming from, scatter the mint around that area. Replace the mint regularly until you no longer notice the mice.
Introduce a cat into your home to repel the mice. When the mice notice they have a predator, they will find a new location and leave your home.
Grow repellent herbs or plants, such as wormwood, elderberry or alliums, to repel mice outside of your home. Avoid adding mulch around the perennials until after the frost occurs and keep the soil bare around the plants so the mice do not have a place to hide.
Fill small bowls with ammonia. Place the ammonia in locations where you notice the mice to repel them.
