In the fall, the Asian ladybugs are plentiful in trees and fields. You'll know the difference from typical ladybugs, by their unexpected bite. During the winter, they climb onto the side of buildings and sometimes into your home. Although they are not physically dangerous to humans, they are annoying. Sealing cracks in the foundation of your home and windows is the best solution to keep Asian ladybugs outside, but it takes a lot of time, effort and money to complete the process. There are simple ways to make traps outside of your home to prevent them for entering.
Things You'll Need
2-liter plastic soda bottles
Utility knife
Esfenvalerate solution
Permethrin solution
Leaves
Cut the bottom half of a 2-liter plastic soda bottle using a utility knife. Discard the top half of the plastic bottle.
Pour one cup of esfenvalerate or permethrin pesticide into the plastic bottle. Swirl the pesticide around the inside walls of the bottle.
Fill the bottle with fresh leaves from surrounding plants and trees. Pull apart the leaves with your hands. Fill a quarter of the bottle with the shredded leaves.
Pour half cup of pesticide on top of the leaves. Let the leaves absorb the pesticide for 20 minutes.
Place multiple traps on the south and west sides of your home. The south and west sides of the home get the most sunlight, which is where the Asian ladybug likes to congregate.
Replace the traps when they fill with dead Asian ladybugs. Discard the traps in the garbage away from small children and pets.
Tips & Warnings
Esfenvalerate and permethrin are toxic to humans and animals if ingested in large amounts. Handle with caution.
