Considered annoying pests by many people, flies quickly infest homes and make their presence known by crawling on food and buzzing around your face. Flyswatters are a common, inexpensive and quick way to kill flies; however, for swatters to be effective, you must remain vigilant and have rapid reflexes. Instead, kill flies fast without having to stand guard 24 hours a day.
Things You'll Need
Apple cider vinegar
Small dish
Liquid dish soap
Spoon
Flypaper
Scissors
Cheesecloth
Mint, bay leaves or clove
Pieces of cloth
Eucalyptus oil
Vinegar
Pour equal parts water and apple cider vinegar in a small dish. Add 2 drops of liquid dish soap. Mix the contents with a spoon.
Set the vinegar-filled dish on a level location near fly-infested areas.
Replace the mixture when the dish fills with dead flies.
Flypaper
Locate areas that attract numerous flies but where flypaper won't be an eyesore.
Hang the flypaper from the ceiling in fly-infested areas. Use the tack included with the flypaper to secure it to the ceiling.
Replace soiled flypaper with fresh strips when needed.
Preventing Flies
Refrain from leaving trash-can lids open. This will eliminate a food and breeding source for the flies.
Keep flies out of your yard by removing animal feces. Flies feed on and lay their eggs in the feces.
Cut cheesecloth squares to make sachets. Fill them with mint, bay leaves or cloves and tie them with string; hang them around the house to keep flies at bay. Alternatively, hang pieces of cloth saturated with eucalyptus oil in areas infested with flies.
Tips & Warnings
When removing flypaper from the package, avoid touching the glue. It won't harm you but it is difficult to remove from skin.
