The Craftsman YS4500 riding mower is one choice for cutting your lawn when you have a large property. Its 54-inch mower deck with two blades helps make quick work out of cutting grass. One way to keep your mower cutting effective is to change the blades when they become dull or bent. To ensure you get the right-size blade for your mower, remove the blade from the Craftsman YS4500 and take it to a home-improvement center for a replacement. Compare the new blade to the old one for proper length.
Things You'll Need
9/16-inch socket wrench
Breaker bar
Move the Craftsman YS4500 mower to a level area and raise the mower deck to its highest position. Shut off the mower and take out the ignition key. Raise the hood and pull the spark plug wire off the spark plug.
Place a 9/16-inch socket wrench over the center bolt securing the blade you want to remove. Hold one end of the blade with a gloved hand. Hold the blade between the cutting end and the center of the blade.
Turn the securing bolt counterclockwise with the socket wrench in your free hand. Slide a 12-inch breaker bar over the socket wrench handle for extra leverage, if the bolt does not turn with the socket wrench alone. A breaker bar is a hollow steel bar that fits over the socket wrench handle.
Remove the bolt from the blade and pull the blade away from the mower deck.
Tips & Warnings
Install new blades with the words "Grass Side" pointing toward the ground.
Always wear heavy leather work gloves when changing blades to avoid accidental cuts.
