Aphids, 1/8-inch pear-shaped insects that are either red, brown, black, yellow or green, do damage to many plants, including vegetable plants. Unfortunately, controlling aphids on vegetables with pesticides can result in the pesticides getting into the vegetables. If you find aphids on your vegetable plants, take immediate actions to control them naturally.
Things You'll Need
Bucket
Warm water
Dish soap
Natural predators
Spray bottle
Horticultural oil
Fill a bucket ? full with warm water and 1 tbsp. of dish soap. Shake the leaves of your vegetable plants over the bucket so that the aphids fall in. Do this first thing in the morning, while the aphids are still sluggish.
Introduce either syrphid flies, parasitic wasps, lacewings or lady beetles into the vegetable garden. These natural predators will devour the aphids.
Mix horticultural oil and water together in a spray bottle at a ratio of 1 to 100. Spray the aphids that are attacking your vegetable plants. Repeat daily until you no longer find any aphids under the leaves of your vegetable plants.
