While vines can provide a wonderful ground cover in your yard, they also can quickly get out of hand and choke out nearby plants and shrubs. Removing the vines is not a difficult process, however. In fact, a simple bleach and detergent solution is all you need to start the removal process. These household items allow you to avoid the use of dangerous chemical herbicides without sacrificing effectiveness.
Things You'll Need
Spray bottle
Bleach
Dish detergent
Drop cloths
Fill a spray bottle with household bleach.
Add two to three drops of liquid dish detergent to the bleach. Secure the cap on the sprayer.
Shake the bottle to integrate the bleach and detergent. The bleach will effectively kill the vines, while the detergent helps the bleach stick to the vines.
Cover plants surrounding the vines with drop cloths. This will protect them from the bleach application.
Hold the spray bottle 3 to 4 inches away from the vines and spray thoroughly with the bleach and detergent mixture. Monitor the vines, then re-spray the mixture if necessary. Be sure to thoroughly coat the leaves of the vines as well as the base of each vine.
