The mower deck on a Poulan lawn mower can become out of adjustment if the deck is exposed to a hard object while mowing. It is easy to tell when the deck gets out of adjustment as the quality of cut becomes poor. However, don't fret -- a few simple steps will have your mower deck level and back to cutting pristine lawns. This procedure will take 10 minutes to complete
Things You'll Need
Tire gauge
Level gauge
3/8-inch wrench
Park the lawn mower on a hard, level surface and set the parking brake. Turn the key in the ignition to the "Off" position. Using the tire gauge, check the air pressure in each of the four tires to ensure the tires are properly inflated. Remove the valve cap on each tire and press the tire gauge against the valve, checking the reading against the PSI rating printed on the side of the tire.
Raise the mower to the highest position by pulling all the way back on the lever located on the right of the operator seat. Measure the left side of the mower deck shell at the bottom where the metal curls with the level gauge; repeat this step on the right side of the mower deck shell. If the mower deck is out of adjustment more then 1/8-inch, you need to make an adjustment.
Go to the side of the lawn mower that has the lowest measurement; locate the access cover on the frame directly above the footrest. Pull off the access cover exposing the adjustment nuts. Loosen the bottom nut with the 3/8-inch wrench. Tighten the top nut, turning it one full turn. Re-measure the side, if it is not within 1/8-inch; keep tightening the top nut until the mower deck is within the specification. Tighten the bottom nut and snap on the access cover.
