Buzzards are scavenger birds that perform the important task of removing dead animals. Unfortunately, they also can damage roofs and leave bacteria-ridden droppings. When you are trying to deter buzzards, remember that they are protected by the North American Migratory Bird Act. You cannot kill or harm them and must use humane methods to remove them. You may only use aggressive tactics if they cause on-going damage; and even then, you must obtain a permit from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Things You'll Need
Small windmill
Miniature cow bells
Heavy-duty bird wire
Erect small windmills along your roof line. The motion will keep the buzzards away.
Hang miniature cow bells along your roof line. String bells every 6-8 inches along a piece of string, and then hang the string. The noise will ward the buzzards off.
Erect heavy-duty bird wire around your roof. The most effective wire has a gauge of .96mm and is tensioned 8 inches high. This barrier should prevent the buzzards from destroying your roof.
