Spiders can be annoying pests in the home and in the garden. They leave large spider webs that people can find to be a nuisance. They're also a source of arachnophobia, a fear for many people. Spiders can be a health concern, as some possess poisonous venom that may cause an allergic reaction or, in a worst-case scenario, even death. One way to kill a spider is to use an insecticide from an aerosol spray can.
Things You'll Need
Aerosol canister of an insecticide specific to spiders
Find the source of the spiders. Look for cracks or holes in the foundation of your home. Check for any moist areas around sinks or pipes. Look in storage areas, the attic and the basement. Check near baseboards and under appliances such as the refrigerator, washer and dryer.
Put on a pair of rubber gloves and remove any spider nests that are found. Dispose of them outside before spraying the area.
Grab the canister of insecticide and shake well. Hold the canister in an upright position and point nozzle away from you.
Hold canister about 12 inches from where you will be spraying. Press down on the nozzle. Spray for several seconds, focusing the stream on the spiders or webs.
Wait two to three days. If the spider problem persists, spray infested areas again.
Tips & Warnings
Wear a protective mask to avoid inhaling the insecticide or getting the poison in your eyes or mouth. Wear long sleeves to avoid any contact on your skin. Wash your hands thoroughly after using the insecticide. Droplets may have reached the plastic gloves or clothes and touching them could lead to exposure.
Keep insecticides away from young children. Do not spray on live plants as this can cause them to wilt and die.
