A weed eater is designed to chop weeds in an area that may be too tight or too confined for your lawn mower to reach. Once chopped, you can then remove the excess weeds by hand and clean up your yard. Starting a gas weed eater is similar to starting a gas-powered lawn mower in that without gas, the unit isn't going to run.
Look at the technical specifications sheet for your weed eater to find the proper fuel-to-oil mixture for your unit (if applicable). Even though your weed eater runs on gasoline, it will likely require oil mixed in to run. This number will be measured in the form of a ratio. For example, a 32:1 ratio requires 4 oz. of oil for every 1 gallon of gas.
Unscrew the lid to the fuel compartment on your weed eater. Look inside to verify that you have enough fuel to start the unit. If you don't, add fuel (with the proper mixture ratio) before continuing.
Prime your weed eater (if applicable). If there is a button labeled "Primer" on the base of your weed eater, press this button two to three times before attempting to start the unit.
Locate the trigger on your weed eater. This is typically either a button that you press down or a handle that you squeeze, located near the top of the weed eater. Press this trigger into the "On" position.
Grab the starter rope, which is located near the base of the weed eater. Pull the rope quickly away from the weed eater and toward your body. This will start the engine on your weed eater.
