The John Deer L120 lawn tractor features a 22 horsepower, V-twin engine, hydrostatic drive and a 48-inch cutting deck. The electric PTO clutch controls the mower blades. By turning on the PTO switch on the dashboard, it sends a 12-volt current to the clutch, which engages a brake causing the blades to turn. As the lawn tractor ages, the PTO clutch can burn out, causing the blades no longer to turn. Removing the electric PTO clutch takes 15 minutes.

Park the lawn mower on a level surface, set the parking brake and remove the key from the ignition.
Push the deck level handle forward to the lowest position; it is located on the right fender deck. Remove the spring pin from the draft arm that hooks into the front of the mower deck. Pull the draft rod out of the hole in the mower deck. Slide the belt off the PTO clutch with your hand.
Disconnect the connector from the PTO clutch, on the right hand side of the tractor. Place the 35-mm wrench over the flat washer just above the bolt holding the clutch to the crankshaft, this will keep the engine from turning. Remove the bolt from the PTO clutch with the 5/8-inch wrench.
Remove the bolt and washer, then slide the PTO clutch off the crankshaft.
