The John Deere L130 was manufactured from 2003 to 2005, it featured a 23 horsepower Kohler engine, hydrostatic drive and a three blade 48-inch cutting deck. The mower deck is controlled by an electric PTO, when the engine is running and the operator is seated, turning on the blades is as simple as pulling up on the PTO switch found on the dashboard. During mowing, if you experience rougher terrain or some debris gets caught in the moving parts on the mower deck, the belt can dislodge from the pulleys causing the belt to come off. Placing the belt back on will require some tools and 15 minutes of your time.
Things You'll Need
10 mm wrench
13 mm wrench
Park the lawn tractor on a hard level surface. Set the mower lever located on the right fender to the lowest position.
Slide the belt off the pulley located under the engine, lift up the front of the deck with your hand until the front linkage rod loosens. Pull the linkage rod through the eyelet to free the front of the mower deck.
Locate the spring loaded release pin on the right side at the rear of the mower, pull the release pin out of the hole, and repeat this step on the left side. Slide the mower out from either side of the tractor.
Clean any debris off the top of the mower deck and remove the two belt shields located on the right and left sides of the mower with the 10 mm wrench. Before routing the belt, there are a total of three three spindles, to which the mower blade is attached, and three guide pulleys. Starting on the left side of the mower, beside the spindle is a flat guide pulley; loosen the nut on top of the flat pulley with the 13 mm wrench.
Route the belt by looking at the diagram in the reference section. Once the belt has been routed, move to the next step.
Tighten down the pulley that was loosened in step 4, reinstall the two belt shields and slide the mower back under the lawn tractor. Slide back in the spring release pins on both sides of the mower deck. Raise the front of the mower up by hand and slide the front linkage rod back into the holder. Slide the belt around the pulley located directly under the engine.
