The seat switch on a John Deere lawn tractor is a safety feature on every model. When an operator is not present while the lawn tractor is running, it enables the seat switch that then shuts off the engine. When the seat switch malfunctions, it is very important to replace the switch for the safety of the operator. This procedure is easily done, and will take five minutes to complete.
Park the machine on a hard, level surface. Remove the key from the ignition and set the parking brake.
Tilt the operator's seat forward, exposing the seat switch on the bottom seat pan. Disconnect the connector on the seat switch from the wiring harness. Rotate the seat switch assembly counterclockwise until the assembly frees. Pull out of the seat pan.
Remove the round button located on top of the switch by depressing the three tabs by hand and pulling up. Press on the two tabs on each side of the switch, and pull it out of the assembly.
Assemble in the reverse order of disassembly.
