The nylon cutting line on a Black and Decker trimmer comes wrapped around a spool inside the cutter head. You can remove this spool and rewind the line onto the spool. The nylon cutting line is intended to break off against surfaces harder than grass, so you will likely run out of cutting line quickly. You can buy a bulk roll of this cutting line so whenever you run out of line you can just rewind the spool with more.
Things You'll Need
Rag
Scissors
.065-inch diameter nylon trimmer line
Unplug the extension cord on the Black & Decker trimmer from the electrical cord on the engine. Flip the shaft over to position the cutting head between your hands. Steady the moving part while depressing the two tabs on the hub cover. Lift the cover away.
Hold the head steady while grasping the spool at the base; pull the spool out of the head. Clear away any remaining fragments of old line. Wipe around the base of the head, inside the head and the spool with the rag; check for broken or cracked parts and replace if necessary.
Insert the end of the new cutting line into the anchor hole on the spool so that ? inch sticks out of the anchor hole. Wrap the line around the spool according to the directional arrow on the spool. Wrap the line in tight, neat rows that don’t overlap or criss-cross each other. Fill the spool until the line reaches the flanges on the spool but don’t overfill the spool.
Cut the line from the bulk row and push it into the holding slot on the upper side of the spool. Repeat the same steps for the second cutting line but use the lower anchor hole and wind it along the lower half of the spool. Fit the cut end into the holding slot.
Insert the line ends through the eyelets on the head cover. Push the spool down into the head and rotate it until it seats itself. Push the spool cover down until it snaps in place.
