Cub Cadets are riding lawn mowers. These lawn mowers can be sped up in many different ways. Before speeding up your Cub Cadet riding lawn mower, read your owner's manual. There are many different versions of Cub Cadet tractors. Many of them have different engines and require different parts, so make sure that you get the correct parts that work on your Cub Cadet.
Things You'll Need
Diamond-tipped spark plug
Screwdriver
Oil filter wrench
Oil filter
Add a diamond-tipped spark plug. A diamond-tipped spark plug fires better than a normal spark plug and does not cost too much more than a traditional spark plug.
Remove the governor -- the plastic piece that limits the speed of the engine. To remove the governor, open the Cub Cadet's hood. Unscrew the round flywheel case. Find the small plastic piece that runs from the flywheel to the engine. This is the governor. Unscrew the screws keeping it in place and pull the governor out of the Cub Cadet with your hand.
Perform routine maintenance. Cleaning the air filter and changing the oil filter will ensure that the Cub Cadet is running at its maximum potential. This is more evident if the filters have not been cleaned or changed in over a year. The air filter can be popped out of place with your hands and cleaned with soap and water. The oil filter is a round black bulge coming off the side of the engine. Unscrew it with an oil filter wrench. Place a new one in its place and tighten it with the oil filter wrench.
