The Ariens 6.5-HP 21-inch Blade Runner lawnmower gives you the ability to choose from seven different cutting heights and three different cut-grass disposal systems. The lawnmower uses a Briggs and Stratton Quantum Series engine for propulsion. This gas-based engine should run well for years as long as you perform regular maintenance on it. The manufacturer suggests that you change the oil in the engine after the first five hours of use, and then every 50 hours of use or after one year, whichever comes first.
Things You'll Need
Approved plastic container
Rag
20 oz. 10W-30 oil
Start up the Ariens 6.5 HP lawnmower and let it run for a few minutes, then turn it off.
Disconnect the spark plug wire on the back of the engine. Bend this wire so it doesn't touch the spark plug. This is the only wire you can see on the outside of the engine.
Move to the opposite side of the engine and locate a small square or hexagonal screw near the base.
Tilt the lawnmower slightly and place your approved container directly under the screw. Remove the screw and let the oil drain into the container. Return the screw and lower the lawnmower when all the oil has drained.
Find the oil dipstick, located on the top of the engine on the opposite side from the starting cord. It is a large round knob that has a small handle on the top. Unscrew the dipstick, remove it and wipe it off with a rag.
Add 20 oz. of oil slowly into the hole where the dipstick was. Wait one minute after putting the oil in, then insert the dipstick and check the level. Add more oil, if necessary, then return the dipstick and place the spark plug wire back into the spark plug.
Tips & Warnings
Be sure to take your used oil to a local gas station or oil change facility, as they will have the right equipment to safely recycle or dispose of your oil.
