You use a lawn edger to trim the grass between your lawn and the sidewalk or edges of the driveway. A nicely edged yard helps to give the lawn a groomed look. Most gas-powered edger blades are powered by a rubber belt that runs from the engine pulley to the drive pulley. The belt is elongated to engage the edger blade. Over time, your edger drive belt can crack or break entirely. You can replace it in about a half hour with basic tools.

Pliers
Wrench
Screwdriver
Pull the spark plug wire off with a pair of pliers.
Lay the edger on its side with the blade guard, blade and belt facing up.
Take off the belt guard screws or bolts. On some edgers, the belt guard may be held in place by screws, on others bolts. Use either a screwdriver or wrench to remove them, depending on the model of your edger.
Pull the blade engage mechanism up by pulling up on the handle. This will create some slack in the belt if it is not popped.
Slip the new belt over the engine pulley and then over the drive pulley.
Push the blade engage lever down to create tension on the belt and seat it squarely on the pulleys.
Hold the belt guard back in place and reinsert the mounting bolts or screws and tighten them securely.
Use your pliers to put the spark plug wire back on.
