A Husqvarna chainsaw, like most chainsaws, has its own process for staring the engine. The two-cycle engine only fires if enough gas, air and a spark are present. Getting that combination just right is crucial, and you won't start your Husqvarna without it. Like with all power tools, practice safety when starting, and read the operator's manual prior to starting your Husqvarna chainsaw for the first time.
Things You'll Need
Two-cycle engine oil
Fuel container
Unleaded gasoline
Open the fuel cap. Pour the two-cycle engine oil into an empty, approved fuel container. Add unleaded gasoline until the container is full. Use a fuel-to-oil ratio of 50-to-1. Pour the freshly mixed gasoline into the chainsaw's empty fuel tank and close the cap.
Push the black chain brake, on top of the engine, forward toward the front hand guard. Locate the choke lever, a colored plastic part, next to the rear handle. Set the choke lever to the half-open setting, noted by a sign resembling "|\|." Push the air-purge button, located next to the starter rope, to purge air in the system until the bulb fills with fuel.
Push the decompression button, located on top of the chainsaw and underneath the front handle next to the cylinder. Set the chainsaw on the ground. Slide your right foot into the rear handle. Place your left hand on top of the front handle.
Pull the starter rope with your right hand, quickly and firmly, but don't wrap the rope around your hand. Pull the rope until the engine starts. Push the choke lever to the closed position when the engine fires or "pops."
Pull the starter rope out again until the chainsaw starts running. Pick the chainsaw up, squeeze the trigger and throttle lock to disengage the clutch and prevent wearing on the clutch. Pull back on the chain brake to begin cutting.
Tips & Warnings
For a warm engine, repeat the same steps without opening the choke lever.
