Bucket
Liquid dish soap
Rag
Old toothbrush
Scrub brush
Remove the water from the fountain. For smaller fountains, disassemble the fountain and pour the water out. To disassemble your fountain, consult the owner's manual for step-by-step instructions. For larger fountains, pump the water out. Attach a long tube to the fountain's pump and immerse the tube into a bucket to pump out.
Pour the old fountain water into your lawn.
Apply several drops of liquid dish soap to a warm gallon of water in a bucket.
Soak a rag in the soapy water and rub down the fountain walls, pump and rocks.
Scrub the algae away using a toothbrush for smaller areas and a scrub brush for larger areas.
Rinse the fountain with clear water.
