Roses have a delicate, curled goblet shape that most people find irresistible. Roses appear at weddings, parties, dances and make thoughtful gifts on birthdays and holidays. Traditionally, the color of a rose means something. Red equals love, yellow is friendship, white is reconciliation and purple means love at first sight. If you want to avoid color confusion or simply give an original bouquet, try creating rainbow roses. The extra work shows extra thoughtfulness.
Things You'll Need
Four tall water glasses
Water
Food coloring
Fresh white rose
Utility knife
Floral tape
Fill four tall glasses with water. Drip 15 to 30 drops of food coloring into each glass. Choose a different color for each glass. You can mix primary colors to create green, purple and orange. Stir to mix well; the colors should be very dark.
Push the four glasses together so they form a square. The rims should touch; the closer the glasses are to each other, the easier coloring your rose will be.
Slice the last 6 inches of your rose stem in half. Turn the rose 90 degrees and slice the stem again so it is in four equal sections.
Slip one section of the slit stem into each glass of water. The stem should be slit enough so that the rose stands up on its own. If not, slice it a little more.
Let the rose drink for 24 to 48 hours. It should be totally colored after this amount of time. Remove the rose from the colors and gently wrap the sliced stem to about an inch before the end with floral tape.
