Boston ferns are recognized by their bushy leaves and lush green color. They thrive in humid climates that receive a lot of sunlight, so maintaining them indoors during the winter months can be a chore. While Boston ferns might not continue to grow very fast indoors, bringing them inside for the winter will protect them until spring arrives.
Things You'll Need
Boston fern
Saucer plate
Pebbles
Houseplant food
Place the Boston fern near a window that receives direct sun, preferably facing the east or west side of the house.
Keep the temperature of the room that houses the fern between 65 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit.
Place the fern in a saucer with pebbles and fill the saucer with water. As the water evaporates from the saucer, it helps provide the humidity the fern requires.
Water the fern thoroughly when the top of the soil is dry.
Feed the fern with half-diluted, nitrogen-enriched, water-soluble houseplant food once a season, except in the winter.
